South Crofty Robinsons Engine House 1

South Crofty Mine Robinsons Engine House 1: This is the first of the three new galleries looking at Robinson’s Engine. This page covers the ground floor of the Engine House. It was actually quite spooky in there on my own, many ghost memories of miners of the past.

South Crofty Mine Robinsons Engine House 1.1 – On walking through the front door of South Crofty Mine Robinson’s Engine House the huge 80″ cylinder is directly in front of you. In the ceiling is a large diameter steam pipe which brought steam from the boiler house.

South Crofty Mine Robinsons Engine House 1.9 – On the wall beside the doorway is a vacuum gauge, sadly the mercury tube and the gauge itself has been the victim of some harsh treatment.

South Crofty Mine Robinson’s Engine House 1.12 – Alongside the door is the steam pressure gauge with the feed pipe from the boiler house. It’s unfortunate that this was smashed by vandals when the Engine House was broken into when the site was abandoned, luckily I have an image of when it was intact.

South Crofty Mine Robinson’s Engine House 1.14 – This is the worn stairway that leads to the middle chamber of the Engine House, it’s difficult not to imaging the engine driver of old, walking up and down these stairs.
