Great Wheal Prosper Stone Quarry 3

Great Wheal Prosper Stone Quarry 3: In a separate part of the site there was a sand plant that had been abandoned, known as John Harvey plant. I am not sure how long it has been since it was last used. It’s very difficult to tell in that environment as the metal does seem to age and decay very quickly, the sand is full of corrosive material.

The John Harvey plant was surrounded by piles of processed sand and I found it a fascinating subject for photography. I make no apology that I have dedicated a page to it, but I think the images are worth it.

Great Wheal Prosper Stone Quarry 3.1 – The first view of the John Harvey sand processing plant in the China Stone Quarry. Also the height of the quarry walls in the background give an idea of the size of the place.

Great Wheal Prosper Stone Quarry 3.4 – Climbing up to get this shot was so very interesting. Because the fine sand made it impossible to climb and I was slipping around like I was drunk.

Cornish Mine Images 3.6 – My favorite image of the John Harvey plant. Because the area around it was flooded and very muddy and has added to the photograph.

My friend Huw has sadly moved on to another job, I would love to gain access to these workings again. If anyone can help please drop me a line.
