Greensplat China Clay Pit 2: This is the second gallery of images taken in and around the Goonvean Aggregates controlled area of Greensplat Pit.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.1 – A good side on image of the sand processing plant. In the foreground is the final graded product being ejected from a conveyor on the right.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.2 – A second bin of the completed graded product, it can be seen tumbling down from the conveyor overhead.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.3 – On the site close to the Global plant was a older crusher plant, this was taken on the gantry above looking out across the vast Clay Pit.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.4 – This image shows the hopper feed into the crusher unit. Finished product is piled under the conveyor on the right.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.5 – A detailed image of the crusher unit, this would have been fed with material from the conveyor overhead.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.6 – A wider image of the crusher unit with the conveyor in the background in place to remove the finely crushed material. I am not sure of the use of the tower in the background.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.7 – This area of the pit is now home to garages and workshops. In the past it would have been part of the clay processing area.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Greensplat China Clay Pit 2.8 – This is a Thickening Settling Tank. So from here the processed clay slurry would be pumped to the driers.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Cornish Mine Images 2.10 – Another wider view of both of the tanks.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Cornish Mine Images 2.11 – When in use this arm would have rotated inside the tank. Here the larger and heavier sand and rock particles would sink to the base where the revolving blades scrape the bottom. The waste is pushed towards the centre where it is removed.

The size of everything surprised me, it is difficult to show in photographs the vastness of the pit. These next images on this page were taken on the border of Wheal Martin Pit.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Cornish Mine Images 2.12 – One the far side of the pit we had a look at this conveyor belt, once again it was very photogenic and I had a great time.

Greensplat China Clay Pit 2 — Cornish Mine Images Pit 2.13 – A closer look at the conveyor. In most places it was covered to stop the wind blowing the contents of the belt everywhere.

Cornish Mine Images — Cornish Mine Images 2.16 – Running along side of the conveyor, there is an emergency stop cord.

Cornish Mine Images — Cornish Mine Images 2.17 – This is the drive motor at the top end of the conveyor belt.

Cornish Mine Images — Cornish Mine Images 2.18 – Finally this is the end of the conveyor surrounded by piles of processed material.

That completes the images for Greensplat Pit. I hope to do some research to get some more history on this and the other pits I visited.
